Which framework is on your interview email?
Two systems are in use at the same time and boards question them differently. The invitation to interview names one: either the capabilities (Building Future Readiness, Evidence Informed Delivery and so on) or six competencies (Teamwork, Delivery of Results and so on). Practise the one you were sent.
Capability Framework
publicjobs open competitions since 2025: CO and TCO, EO, HEO, AO, AP, PO. Scored 1-50 per sub-dimension.
Competency Model
Revenue, Garda Síochána civilian staff, OPW and most department-run or internal competitions. Six competencies, each marked separately.
HSE, councils and uniformed services
Their own competencies, not the Civil Service ones. HSE boards work through the headings of your job specification; councils add Local Government Knowledge; the Prison Service interview follows a role play.
Irish Prison Service
Recruit Prison Officer 2026 (publicjobs competition 134). Interview and role play on Zoom from December 2026. Six competencies, each marked out of 50, pass mark 20.
An Garda Síochána
Garda Trainee (publicjobs, 2026 campaign). Stage 2 is a role play then a competency interview on Zoom, about an hour in all. Five competencies, each marked separately, then an order of merit.
HSE
Health Service Executive: Grade III, IV and V, Staff Nurse and CNM1/CNM2, recruited through Rezoomo. The six headings of your job specification, each marked 1 to 100; under 40 in any one and you are not placed on the panel.
County and City Councils
The 31 local authorities, recruiting Grade III, IV and V directly under the LGMA competencies, plus Local Government Knowledge at interview. Where published, 50% in every competency to make the panel.
